Last weekend Mikie, Brandon, and Myself made a little trip down to Flamingo in the Everglades National Park. None of us had fished down there and its legendary status in the game got our juices going. We rented a skiff from the park for $195 for eight hours, not including the $100 deposit. All in all it was a sweet deal.
We fished that bastard for eight hours straight using assorted top water lures and Gulps on jigs. And we didnt get a damned thing. The only other anglers we saw were complete douche bags. The Everglades is a pretty big place but these face masked guides in their $80K boats love to get right on top of you. I finally got fed up with the whole situation (AKA concentrate on crushing Busch heavies) and tied up a Cajun Thunder with a chunk of cut bait. Low and behold the elusive Snook decided to take a bite. He must’ve like my sweet white trash North Florida style cause the little guy beat the breaks off that Cajun Thunder.
If anyone is interested in fishing that area I highly suggest it. They offer a hell of a daily deal on a little 17′ skiff (evergladesnationalparkboattoursflamingo.com/canoe.php). We will certainly be back down there soon. Next time I’ll just stick to the popping cork. Evidently its en vogue these days.
